Membership Development and Evangelism Committee -2006 This was a productive year for the Membership Development & Evangelism Committee with our main focus on growth. Even though our goal was to raise membership by 5 family units, we did achieve a growth of 3. We continue to send a short greeting to all the visitors that have placed cards in the offering plate. Approximately 15 cards were sent to visitors during the year. Some of the events hosted by the committee were: · The annual Sweets & Treats, which is by far the most popular and well attended event the Committee sponsors, was held in February. Numerous delectable desserts and snacks were brought and shared. · The annual Soup’r Sundae event was held in March and was again a great success. Fruit was made available for those observing a break from sweets during Lent. · In April we had a family bowling outing which proved to be a wonderful experience and we shall surely put this on the calendar for next year. · The summer picnic with worship in the park was held in June. Attendance is still not up to where it should be for this event. We did however have passerby’s stop to listen. We placed an article in the Courier Journal about the picnic hoping it would spur more interest from the community. · Western Horizon’s Sunday was held in October this year. Honored were Gary Laberge, Claris Schwing, Lorene McGee, Myra Mumby, Bob and Madelyn Jagger and Walter and Carolyn Lester. We had 20 different Soups brought in by the congregation with handouts of events in the grand year of 1956 when all of these dedicated people joined the church family. · Our final membership activity for the year was the “Hanging of the Greens” on Saturday December 2. A request came from Rochelle Morse asking if the committee could help in decorating the Sanctuary. I took this to the group where Paul Powell suggested the Confirmand group help. They were graciously accepted and were a great help. This was a learning experience for them and all went very smoothly. We finished with pizza and soda, always a hit with teens. · The committee is calling couples within the congregation to get a list of people who would be Greeters this coming year. Pastor Stuart will be giving a brief training in January 2007 to assist these volunteers in their task. The lack of having Greeters was highlighted as a weakness from our Mission Design group and we are taking action on this point. · We again hosted the Open House of Churches in Palmyra on December 17. Bob Kirchhoff and Cim McFarlane conducted tours for visitors. The rest of the team was there to answer any questions that might be asked. All in all it has been a very busy year not only for our committee but the church in general. The team feels good in what we have accomplished and look forward to a successful 2007.
